Confirming the Update

If you select the Confirm each update option, this window will appear every time the update process finds one or more matching records. The data in the top half of the window is how the record appears in the update database.

The data in the list at the bottom of the window shows all the potentially matching records. If more than one record is displayed in the list, the currently selected record will be the one updated.  As of version 1.1, you can select more than one record to update. This is for situations where you have entered multiple copies of the same issue as different records (different conditions, for example).

Important: Prior to version 1.1, you could only select one record, so, the list at the bottom was set up to only highlight one row. Therefore, when you clicked on row 2, it became the highlighted row, and row 1 became "un-highlighted".

Now, when the window comes up, row 1 will be selected by default (same as before). However, If you want to change it to row 2, and only row 2, , you must click on row 1 to TURN IT OFF (deselect it), and click on row 2 to select row 2. If you just click on row 2, both rows will be highlighted, and if you click the Update button, both records will be updated

So, be sure to select the appropriate row(s) before you click the Update button.

You can decide to update the currently selected record(s), skip it and go on to the next record, or cancel the update process entirely.

If you have the Skip Multiple Updates option turned on (on the Parent window toolbar), this window will not appear at all.   Click here for more details on how this works.

As long as you have the above option turned off, even if you have the Confirm each update option turned off, this window will appear if the update finds more than one record that matches, or, if the issue number is alpha-numeric (like 1A), and the update process wants to be sure the correct record is updated.

Issue Information as it appears on the Update Database, and which will be used to update the selected record

This portion of the window shows the title, publisher, issue number, price guide date, new book value, and any comments that apply to the current issue on the update database. If you click the Update button, the selected record in the list will be updated with this value and this date, and possibly, the issue number, if they are different.

Issues that match (or almost match) the update record
The list displays all the records on your database that match the record above. If there is more than one in the list, you must select the record(s) to update. If you don't want to update any of them, click the Skip button.

Confirm each update
Check this box if you want this window to appear every time the update process finds a match. Otherwise, the update process will only display this message when it is unsure if it has the correct matching record.

Update Issue #s that match
In earlier versions, FWIW always displayed the Confirmation window whenever it tried to update a non-numeric issue, like a ½ issue, or a variant cover (1A, 1B, etc.). There was a legitimate reason for this, as it was likely that most users would not have the correct issue number to match the one found in FWIW.

When you did select the issue to update, if the issue numbers did not match, the update program would ask if you wanted to change the issue number in ROW to match what was found in FWIW (BTW, I suggest answering "Yes" to this question).

This is good for new users so you can accurately link issues that are really a match but may be entered with different issue numbers. However, once you've agreed to change the issue number so they match, this repetitive confirmation gets annoying. Therefore, I've added an option to the Options window where you can tell the update program to update non-numeric issues that match without the Confirmation window appearing.

The check box here does exactly the same thing, since you can't get to the one on the parent window while the Confirmation window is displayed.

Update button
Click this button to update the record(s) that is selected in the list, with the value and date listed in the Book Value and Guide Date fields above. Also, if the issue numbers are different, you will be asked if you want to update the issue number on your database.

Skip button
Click this button if you do not wish to update any records, but still continue on to the next record.

Cancel Update Process button
Click this button to stop the update process.
